The Story
NINE dot ARTS developed the interior art collection for the newest entertainment venue in Inglewood, CA, providing fans with moments of curiosity and awe as they move through the state-of-the-art facility. Art locations were selected intentionally to add meaning and depth to the fan experience, encouraging visitors to uncover new aspects of the work every time they visit.
Outside the courtside seats, visitors can enjoy local artist Rob Grad’s series of photographic prints which feature Joshua Trees and palm trees. Inspired by his two decades living in Venice Beach, these heavily layered visuals contrast the photographic vignettes of natural and urban environments with layered drawings, paintings, and his own words.
Outside the premium suites on the first level is a series of captivating wall sculptures by LA-based artist Orrin Whalen. The sculptures feature a draping pattern that nods to theater curtains, tying into the many concerts and performances the venue will host. They also include a repeated woven motif, inspired by textures that can withstand force while keeping true to their form, such as the netting of a basketball hoop, shoe laces, and even the streets and boulevards connecting the city. “A woven structure shows the togetherness of a team, an arena full of fans, or simply the gridded streets that bring this city together,” said Whalen. “In togetherness there’s strength.”
The art experience continues on level four of the arena, where two expansive wall installations by KX2 – sister duo Ruth Avra and Dana Kleinman – aim to spark excitement and pride in visitors. “California Love” draws its inspiration from the sheet music of the iconic song “California Love” by 2Pac, featuring Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman, which holds special significance as the LA Clippers’ win song. This meandering artwork is composed of 80 circular sculptures, meticulously arranged to reflect the different sections of the song. The varying sized circles correspond to the musical notes on a staff, translating the song’s rhythm and melody into a tangible visual form.
KX2’s second installation, “Game Play,” captures the excitement and strategy of a basketball game. The piece features wall sculptures arranged in a formation reminiscent of a basketball play, employing the LA Clippers’ team colors—red and blue —to distinguish between offensive and defensive players. Each circular sculpture is designed to evoke the appearance of both a basketball and a ship’s porthole, with textural painting that reflects the dynamic motion and sensation of waves. This fusion of elements creates a vibrant and immersive experience for fans, blending the fluidity of basketball with the strategic depth of the game.
Also on the fourth level is an experiential installation by local artist Jesse Small, inspired by the fluid movement of basketball players as they bound across the court. Blue aluminum and enamel sculptures line the hallway, featuring abstract shapes reminiscent of a basketball net, backboard, and pole. Of his installation, Small shared, “Art and Athletics have a lot in common. Both strive for excellence. There is a dream that takes hold early on to reach that distant goal…Let’s get inspired by the team to stay focused on our dreams, too.”
Altogether, this immersive art program blends creativity and innovation to offer visitors exciting moments of discovery, positioning the arena as a premier destination for both sporting events and cultural engagement.
