The Story

Located in Seattle’s U District, The Chapter Buildings redefine the modern workplace through a dynamic public art experience designed to connect the development to the surrounding university, neighborhood, and city. Developed by Touchstone Partners, Urban Renaissance Group, and Portman Holdings, the 400,000 sq ft mixed-use office and life sciences campus features a collection of large-scale murals and contemporary interior works centered around themes of innovation, storytelling, and breakthrough moments.

Primarily composed of murals by Seattle-local artists, the collection welcomes visitors into the buildings and through the “Brooklyn Cut,” a publicly accessible pedestrian corridor connecting 12th Avenue and Brooklyn Avenue NE. Overall Creative’s vibrant ground plane mural activates the passageway and encourages movement through the site, while Will Schlough’s geometric mural adds a playful pop of color that can be seen from afar. Nearby, Shogo Ota’s large-scale peacock mural reflects hidden narratives and personal history, and Jen Ament’s “Path of Discovery,” created in collaboration with Urban ArtWorks youth apprentices, explores themes of growth, transformation, and empowerment.

Inside the buildings, contemporary photography and block prints by Kitbash Studio, Xan Padron, and Jen Ament continue the narrative of creativity and innovation, helping position The Chapter Buildings as a welcoming, community-driven destination for Seattle’s next generation of thinkers and creators.

Our ability to create authentic experiences for our guests is a key differentiator against our competition, and the art program that NINE dot ARTS created is a prime example. Much of the art comes from current Boston University (BU) students and alumni, which really connects with our guests. As a result, we continue to grow our share of business from BU.”
