The Story
Nestled at the base of Snowmass Mountain, Viceroy Snowmass Hotel and Cirque Residences blend alpine luxury with a playful sense of nostalgia through a bold, immersive art collection inspired by travel, the American West, and the romance of mountain living. Developed by East West Partners, the 330,000 sq ft resort features 367 artworks spanning public spaces, guest rooms, and six levels of residences, helping establish one of the most distinctive hospitality art experiences in the Aspen Snowmass area.
Guided by a curatorial vision rooted in “alpine chic,” the collection balances sophistication and whimsy through a diverse mix of sculptural works, contemporary photography, found-object assemblage, textile installations, figurative paintings, and abstract art inspired by the surrounding landscape. While Cirque Residences leans more eclectic and playful, Viceroy Snowmass embraces a refined, elevated aesthetic, together creating two distinct yet connected experiences under the Viceroy brand umbrella.
Throughout the public spaces, primarily Colorado-based artists celebrate the culture, nostalgia, and mythology of the modern American West. A 1,700+ sq ft hand-painted mural by Chelsea Gilmore transforms an Aspen grove into a dreamlike, immersive environment, while Meredith Steele’s dimensional mixed-media portraits and Andi Burnum’s anthropomorphic wildlife paintings introduce a sense of humor and personality. Nearby, internationally recognized artist William Sweetlove’s recycled nickeled bronze penguin sculptures bring a surreal, thought-provoking presence to the resort.
Additional highlights include a custom history wall developed in partnership with the Aspen Historical Society featuring archival photographs documenting the region’s skiing and cultural legacy; a suspended sculptural installation by Rob Snyder composed of hand-assembled glass leaves and wire; and a handcrafted brass installation by Boulder artist Beth Naumann behind the reception desk. Contemporary works by artists like Julie Jablonski, John Boak, and Andrei Duman further reinforces the collection’s themes of glamour, adventure, and exploration, while playful works throughout the corridors create moments of discovery for guests and residents alike.
Altogether, the collection transforms Viceroy Snowmass and Cirque Residences into a layered visual experience that feels both worldly and deeply rooted in Colorado’s mountain culture — balancing luxury, nostalgia, and contemporary storytelling to create an unforgettable alpine destination.
