The Story
At AngloGold Ashanti’s new headquarters in Greenwood Village, an expansive art program promotes themes of connection, sustainability, and pride to align with the mining company’s mission and values. Integrated with innovative design concepts from Elsy Studios, artworks are separated into quadrants representing the company’s key areas of operation – North America, South America, Australia, and Africa. Artwork complements the materiality, color palette, texture, and overall aesthetic of the area in which it is placed, creating both a distinct character for that space and a harmonious reflection of the company’s global reach. Interwoven with the quadrants are global areas, such as the reception or the boardroom, which feature works by national and international artists.
From Colombian artist Andrea stau de Lafont’s custom diptych commission for reception featuring a lustrous gold, textured materiality to hand-crafted wood mosaics by the Australian group Studio Sarai, the collection features a range of mediums for employees and visitors to enjoy. In the South America office space and the “quiet room,” two biophilic art walls featuring preserved moss pay homage to the company’s sustainability efforts. Designed by NINE dot ARTS with custom fabrication and installation by local Colorado artist Justin Kovaleski (Kovaleski Wood Crafts), these stunning backdrops can last for more than a decade, continuing to build pride and inspiration in each new employee.
Across from the quiet room moss wall is a gallery display of photographs selected from AngloGold Ashanti’s archives, exhibited against a custom wall vinyl created by InkMonstr that presents as an earthy, rock backdrop. And in a nearby conference room, artist Tommy Moss’s installation entitled Coded Circle transforms the “language” of international morse code into a visual art form, with each dot and dash spelling out the 7 elements of art: line, shape, tone, color, pattern, texture, and form.
Additionally, three hand-woven basket displays in the South America and Africa office spaces honor the creativity and labor of women artisans across the globe. Baskets in the Africa space were purchased from Ten Thousand Villages, a nonprofit fair trade organization that markets handcrafted products made by artisans from more than 35 countries.
Altogether, the international art collection at AngloGold Ashanti’s new headquarters aims to honor the company’s prolonged commitment to excellence in sustainability and social impact, meanwhile inspiring employees to make a positive difference in both their work and their communities.
